Have You Wondered Whats Stopping You?

It’s amazing to think back on on all the ideas I have had over my years. I have even written them down in my mobile phones notepad. What stopped me from accomplishing any of the written ideas? It was enemy number one resistance.  There is a quote by Les Brown that fits. “The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step.

I would add to that that the first step is never taken because of resistance. Resistance sits inside our minds and goes into action whenever we want to do anything that will stretch us. Resistance for the most part is not anything or anyone else but  you and me pushing back at that amazing thing that we can accomplish.

Listening to Steven Pressfield’s book “ The War of Art” and reading his book “Do the work” have been eye openers. When he talks about resistance he is spot on. He says whenever we do anything out of our comfort zone good ol resistance pops up to give us push back.

It uses very rational chatter that goes on inside our heads. The chatter  exists from all the years we have been told be careful and not do anything that is outside of the box. It starts in  our heads when we want to write a book, start a business, start a workout regimen. The list can go on.

Pressfield says with every idea there is resistance that comes with it. Resistance first order of business is to tell you that you suck. I have faced this every time I sat down to write my blog. I even felt this when I sat down to do a youtube video.

road blocks negative thinking

One effective way to get past the ever existent chatter is to take action NOW. Pushing things for off for  later only makes resistance stronger. The next thing we know is that we are on our death bed filled with regret that we never fulfilled our true potential. Because we gave in to the resistance

Question: Have you ever wondered why you have not ever done that thing you have always wanted to do?
